Visiting Scholars Programmes at Canadian Universities
Applications for visiting professor support programmes are now closed for 2026.
These programmes support long research stays (for a period of 2 to 6 months) at the University of British Columbia (Vancouver campus) and the University of Calgary.
The purpose of these programmes is to enable permanent researchers affiliated with French public universities and research organizations (CNRS, Inserm, INRAE, Institut Pasteur, INRIA, etc.) to spend a few months at a Canadian university (University of British Columbia, University of Calgary) to develop a research project, expand and structure partnerships. The priority research areas are those defined during the first joint committee on science, technology, and innovation between France and Canada in 2023:
- Emerging technologies: AI, quantum sciences, mathematics, societal impact, etc.
- Health: global health, public health policy, genomics, molecular biology, mathematics etc.
- Oceanic and polar sciences: oceanography, biodiversity, marine ecology, data science, etc.
- Energy: renewable energies, net-zero transition, sustainability, etc.
Visiting scholars are expected to remain full-time on the university site (UBC, UCalgary) for the entire duration of their stay. The host principal investigator will provide the visiting scholar with access to facilities, equipment, and resources within the university.
