La Fête de la science

Launched by the French Ministry of Higher Education and Research in 1991, La Fête de la science is a worldwide science festival featuring thousands of innovative, fun and free events for the public. The multitude of events gives attendees the opportunity to meet scientists, learn about the work of researchers, share knowledge, hear about new scientific findings and debate the major issues of the 21st century.

By bringing researchers and the public, passion and curiosity, la Fête de la science gives people of all ages to discover science in a new light, through images, debates and emotions. La Fête de la science is a way to share common scientific culture, to develop critical thinking and to promote reason, a questioning mind and experimentation that are at the heart of the scientific method.

Fête de la science 2025

The theme of the 2025 edition of La Fête de la science is “Intelligence(s).”

Each day, the news puts into focus the performances and the dangers of the spectacular advancement of artificial intelligence (AI). At the heart of fierce international competition

Every day, the news highlights both the achievements and the dangers of the spectacular development of artificial intelligence (AI). At the centre of fierce global competition, AI is making inroads into all areas, opening the door to a new revolution. Having become more “intelligent” than humanity, could machines one day surpass us? And what kind of intelligence are we talking about?

Intelligence has long been perceived as being unique to humans. At the beginning of the 20th century, intelligence became tangible, almost mathematical, with the introduction of the concept of I.Q. Intelligence could now be reduced to a number. The latest scientific advances show that intelligence exists in forms as varied as they are nuanced. From the behaviour of cells to the astonishing abilities of plants, from the cognitive prowess of animals to the emergence of AI, the notion of intelligence shows itself in many ways and challenges our thinking.

The 2025 edition of La Fête de la science invites the public to explore all forms of intelligence and to rethink what it means to be intelligent, beyond human boundaries.
