Quantum Studio
Launched as part of the “Résidences Ouest-Ouest” program, Quantum Studio is an artistic residency between France and Canada initiated by the Institut français du Canada, in collaboration with major scientific and cultural institutions in Paris and Vancouver. Open to artists of all artistic practices, this unique program promotes exchanges between the arts and quantum sciences (quantum physics, quantum computing, physics of the very small, materials science, fundamental physics) by fostering bridges between scientific research and contemporary creation.
Residency in Vancouver
In Vancouver, the residency was launched in 2023 by the Embassy of France to Canada / Institut français du Canada, in partnership with the Stewart Blusson Quantum Matter Institute (UBC) and the Morris and Helen Belkin Art Gallery at the University of British Columbia (UBC). It is open to French artists from all disciplines.
For 1 month, the selected artist nurtures and develops their project through numerous exchanges within British Columbia's scientific and artistic ecosystem.
The third edition of this artist residency will be launched In 2025, declared the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology by the United Nations.
Residency in Paris
The French component of the residency was launched in 2024, in partnership with the Quantum Information Center Sorbonne (Sorbonne University), CENTQUATRE-PARIS, and the City of Paris international residency program at Les Récollets.
Intended for a Canadian artist residing in Western Canada (British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Yukon or the Northwest Territories), this 1-month residency immerses selected artists in the Parisian artistic and scientific ecosystems.
