Mind the map(ping)
Launched by the Institut français du Canada, Rencontres Audiovisuelles (Lille, France), and Insula orchestra (Paris, France) in 2025, the Mind the map(ping) residency offers Canadian artists a unique opportunity to design and create video mapping works alongside French creators as part of Rencontres Audiovisuelles de Lille.
Taking place right after the Image Beyond the Screen International Conference (IBSIC), which brings together more than 400 professionals from 30 countries, this residency is offered at the Video Mapping European Center at Arenberg Creative Mine, a leading educational centre for industry professionals and producer of one of the most important mapping festivals in Europe.
The first edition of this 8-day residency (2 days of conferences and 6 days of creation) will take place in June 2026. The results of the work produced during this residency will be presented as part of the 2026 edition of Nuit Blanche Toronto (October 3 and 4).
The inauguration of the work during Nuit Blanche Toronto will also provide an opportunity to welcome a delegation of French professionals associated with the project, who will benefit from a series of professional meetings in Toronto.
Finally, the program is intended to be promoted in other countries and at events organized by the Rencontres Audiovisuelles de Lille, thereby increasing the recognition and professional integration of French and Canadian artists.
Objectives
The program offers educational support on video mapping techniques, making video mapping accessible, even to artists with no prior experience.
The residency focuses on skills development and artistic exchange between Canadian and French artists.
The works produced during the residency are presented at Toronto's Nuit Blanche, which each year features around 100 installations scattered throughout the city and attracts over 1 million visitors.
