High Level Scientific Fellowship

The Embassy of France in Canada has partnered with Campus France to offer scholarships to PhD students or postdoctoral researchers affiliated with a Canadian university for a 2-month research stay in France. The aim of this program is to facilitate and strengthen collaboration with academic researchers in scientific fields that are priorities for France and Canada, as defined at the first Joint Committee on Science, Technology and Innovation between France and Canada in 2023.

The call for applications is open to the following themes:
•    Emerging technologies: AI, quantum science, etc.
•    Health: global health, public health policy, genomics, etc.
•    Ocean and polar sciences: oceanography, biodiversity, marine ecology, etc.
•    Energy: renewable energy, net-zero transition, sustainability, etc.

Eligibility criteria

The High-Level Scientific fellowship program is open to PhD students or postdoctoral researchers who are in the early stages of their career (0 to 5 years after their PhD) working at any university in Canada (outside of Quebec) in one of the fields mentioned above. Applicants must not be French nationals.

Applicants are responsible for identifying a French host institution. If neither the applicant nor their research supervisor has an existing collaboration with a French team, we recommend that they contact researchers in France to identify opportunities for collaboration.
Researchers working in the humanities and social sciences in connection with the fields mentioned above are invited to apply.

The grant

The grant includes:
•    1 round-trip economy-class flight to France;
•    a monthly stipend of €1,850 (subject to change);
•    health insurance (including liability insurance).

To know whether or not you need a visa, please visit the France-Visas website. Selected applicants who require a visa to enter France are responsible for the procedures and costs involved in obtaining their visa. As visa applications can take 2-3 months to process, selected candidates must begin the visa process as soon as the results of the call for applications are announced. They must update the French Embassy in Canada on the progress of their application.
