Choix Goncourt Canada 2024: Neige Sinno’s Triste tigre

On Thursday, May 2nd, 2024, student representatives of the reading committees of 7 Canadian universities gathered at the Embassy of France in Ottawa. There, as members of the Choix Goncourt Canada selection panel, they awarded the 2024 Choix Goncourt Canada prize to Neige Sinno for her novel Triste tigre.

This first edition of Choix Goncourt Canada brought together 38 students from the following universities: 

  • University of Ottawa
  • Queen’s University
  • University of New Brunswick
  • University of British Columbia
  • University of Calgary
  • University of Alberta
  • Toronto Metropolitan University 

Over the course of 6 months, the university reading committees read the 4 novels on the 2023 Prix Goncourt shortlist:

The sponsoring author for this first edition of Choix Goncourt Canada was Mahir Guven, winner of the 2018 Prix Goncourt for a first novel for Grand frère. During his time in Ottawa, Mahir Guven took part in the Ottawa International Writers Festival and gave a lecture about his works at the Ottawa Alliance Française. 

In parallel with the deliberations, the students had the chance to meet with a number of players in the Ottawa Francophone literary scene at the Salon du livre de l’Outaouais, the Ottawa Alliance Française and the Librairie du Soleil bookstore.
